In its store in Bad Feilnbach, southeast of Munich, Edeka merchant Prechtl has modernised the checkout area with two Vision Hybrid systems from Swedish shopfitting and retail technology specialist Itab. With this solution, which combines traditional staffed checkouts with self-checkouts, the independent retailer aims to offer its customers a flexible and efficient checkout experience.<\/p>\n

The technology allows store staff to switch between manned and self-service operation within seconds, depending on the customer situation. Prechtl is one of the first retailers to implement the new Itab system. As the manufacturer explained to The Retail Optimiser<\/em>, there are already other installations in place, but the company is not yet able to name them.<\/p>\n

Prechtl realised the project together with the IT division of Edeka S\u00fcdbayern. Edeka current checkout and SCO software from GK has been used. Pyramid’s POS hardware, tailored to Edeka’s requirements, was also installed in the new checkout solution.<\/p>\n

Ready to use even at times of staff shortage<\/h3>\n

The patented hybrid solution allows the store to respond flexibly to changing customer flows and operational requirements. Even when there are few staff available at times or employees are busy with other tasks, the checkout area can remain fully open and run efficiently.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The system provides a traffic light system and illuminated elements to guide customers safely through the checkout process. It is designed to be easy to use in self-service mode, even for senior citizens and people with disabilities. Itab focuses on inclusive design and promises barrier-free operation.<\/p>\n

Ergonomics determines the design<\/h3>\n

Vision Hybrid is also designed to enable efficient and comfortable handling for the personnel. Employees can operate the system while standing or sitting. It features heating and ventilation as well as ergonomically arranged controls.
