The roll-out has covered more than 550 Asda Express stores and petrol station outlets. Renovotec and HL Partner have installed the technology, whilst Elecomm, Madic UK and Evolve provided technical infrastructure support.<\/p>\n<p>In total, the retailer has installed more than 1.2 million electronic shelf labels. According to the company, these replace the weekly replacement of more than 120,000 paper labels. This is intended to free up more time for staff to focus on customer service, stock availability and store maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, Asda is using Vusion\u2019s new 2.6-inch displays, which are designed to make information easier to read. Back in July 2026, the retailer had already introduced ingredient, allergen and calorie information for baked goods on the ESLs at 142 Express stores. In doing so, Asda has also linked the technology to the requirements of UK allergen labelling under Natasha\u2019s Law. <a href=\"https:\/\/retail-optimiser.de\/en\/british-retailers-accelerate-use-cases-for-digital-shelf-labels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Retail Optimiser<\/em> reported.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Asda has been significantly expanding the project<\/h3>\n<p>The retail group has expanded the project considerably beyond the scope announced at the start of the project. In October 2025, Asda initially announced more than 700,000 labels for over 250 of its largest and busiest Express convenience stores. At that time, around 2,800 displays were planned per store.<\/p>\n<p>The roll-out was preceded by a twelve-week trial involving 3,000 labels at the Asda Express store on Oxford Road in Manchester. According to the company, the team was able to implement price changes there within 15 seconds. Asda had previously trialled electronic shelf labels at its superstore in Stevenage, concluding that trial in 2023.<\/p>\n<h3>Cameras from Focal Systems to detect shelve gaps<\/h3>\n<p>At the same time, Asda has been testing shelf-edge cameras in five larger stores within its core network. These are not supplied by Vusion, but by Focal Systems. The solution detects gaps on the shelves, low stock levels and incorrectly placed products, and alerts staff to the need for action.
