Guest Feature: UltimateShopper Plus – The shopping trolley that takes the lead

Shopping trolleys are increasingly becoming digital sales assistants. With the UltimateShopper Plus, Geck demonstrates how navigation, recommendations, self-scanning and loss prevention merge into a single system and why retailers can unlock new efficiency potential as a result.

The UltimateShopper Plus from Geck follows a clear concept: the customer no longer guides the trolley through the store. Instead, the trolley guides its users. Based on a digital shopping list or desired items entered directly on the tablet, the system navigates shoppers along the most efficient route to their destination. Along the way, personalised cross and upselling recommendations are displayed based on the shopping list and can be added to the basket with a single click. The UltimateShopper Plus calculates the most effective route, accompanies the entire shopping journey with relevant information and supports targeted impulses for additional purchases.

At the heart of this wide range of functions is the software platform developed entirely in-house by Geck. It combines all processes in a single system, from navigation and product recommendations to self-scanning, contactless payment, security functions, tracking and data analytics. The tracking system fully complies with data protection regulations and is based on infrared transmitters installed in the store ceiling. It operates without smartphones and without any form of personal camera surveillance. The goal is to create an intuitive hands-free shopping experience that does not introduce any technical barriers for customers. Through a new partnership with Shopreme, Geck can also offer the integration of the Snap Cart software if required. This provides retailers with additional options such as an enhanced user interface, the integration of existing loyalty programmes, retailer apps and further modular features.

The UltimateShopper Plus supports customers throughout the entire shopping process. Products are scanned directly at the trolley or shelf, product information such as allergens is displayed immediately on the screen and payment can be completed contactlessly at the trolley. At the same time, customers receive personalised recommendations based on their shopping list. The previous model is already being used successfully in a test store. Retailers report higher customer satisfaction due to the elimination of traditional checkout queues as well as a reduced need for staff in the checkout area.

Triple loss prevention for more security

A central element of the system remains its integrated loss prevention. The combination of weighing technology, tracking and AI based image verification detects inconsistencies during scanning immediately and discreetly alerts store staff. Additional employee tools support spot checks and further enhance security. For retailers, this means less shrinkage combined with leaner operational processes.

The software also delivers data driven insights via an analytics dashboard. Retailers receive real time information on customer paths, dwell times and potential bottlenecks, enabling them to react immediately when necessary. All data is analysed in a fully anonymised form. The insights gained serve as the basis for assortment optimisation, more efficient store layouts and retail media campaigns displayed directly on the trolley screen or via digital signage. ERP interfaces allow retailers to precisely control which products are promoted or recommended.

The only provider offering a complete hardware and software solution

Geck is the only provider on the market that covers both the development and production of its smart shopping trolley entirely within its own organisation. From robust hardware to the complete software architecture, every component is designed and manufactured in house. This is made possible by more than seventeen years of experience in shopping trolley manufacturing and a dedicated production infrastructure. The result is a perfectly coordinated system in which mechanics, electronics and digital functions work seamlessly together. Retailers benefit from a solution from a single source that is reliable, flexible and future proof.

In addition to the UltimateShopper Plus, Geck presents further digital solutions such as the UltimateShopper Retrofit, an intelligent retrofit option for existing shopping trolleys, and the UltimateShopper Click and Collect solution, which has been specifically developed for efficient order picking processes. All systems are based on the same modular hardware and software architecture and can be experienced live in the Geck test supermarket in Altena (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany).

EuroShop 2026: A glimpse into the digital shopping world of tomorrow

At EuroShop 2026, Geck will present itself with a new open booth concept that showcases the full breadth of the company and offers visitors a direct insight into the future of shopping. The focus is on the digital experience world surrounding the UltimateShopper Plus, where visitors can test the smart functions of the system first hand. Live demonstrations show how navigation, product recommendations, hands-free scanning, payment and modern security solutions combine to create a new shopping experience. In addition, Geck will present the UltimateShopper Retrofit and the UltimateShopper Click and Collect solution. This digital experience is embedded within three further areas that form the foundation of the company: store fitting accessories made of metal, solutions made of plastic and customised special solutions for store construction.

Geck brings decades of experience in metal processing and plastics technology and has been one of the leading manufacturers of merchandise carriers and store equipment for generations. Thanks to its close ties to the industry, Geck understands the needs of retailers in depth and has been working closely with many leading companies from the grocery, drugstore and DIY sectors for many years. As a result, visitors experience not only innovative technology at the booth but also a company that understands their processes, challenges and objectives in detail and develops solutions precisely tailored to everyday retail requirements.

Geck can be found from 22 to 26 February in Hall 10, Stand C35, on an exhibition space of 232 square metres.
