VF Corporation goes omnichannel with Scandit and SAP Fiori

Fashion retailer VF Corporation has improved its in-store processes with smartphone apps powered by Scandit. The solution integrated Scandit’s barcode scanning software and was built with SAP’s app toolbox Fiori. The technology has helped the retailer achieve an exceptionally high inventory accuracy thus preventing order cancellations. The fashion retailer first piloted the technology in North America. VF Corporation, parent company of The North Face and many other outdoor fashion brands such as Eastpak, Timberland and Jansport began its omnichannel journey by deploying Scandit-powered mobile devices for three services: ‘Ship from store’, ‘Buy Online Pick Up In Store’ and ‘Reserve Online Buy In Store’. These processes required fast, reliable and ergonomic scanning to help staff pick orders and meet agreed service level agreements. With Scandit’s high scanning speed, the fashion retailer was able to transform its in-store processes and turn its stores into omni-channel hubs. Before the solution was introduced, corporate policy required that employees could only scan and check 10 per cent of received items, which led to stock inaccuracies. The inaccuracies caused 15 per cent of online orders being cancelled due to out-of-stocks. With Scandit’s scanning software, store associates can quickly and reliably scan and check every item, ensuring complete inventory accuracy. “Firstly, with Scandit, every process is now happening in real-time. Second, store associates are going beyond agreed service level agreements for receiving goods as it is faster and easier – resulting in superior stock accuracy. And third, we can complete all the omnichannel processes closer to the customer,” says Andrea Comi, Global Director, Digital and Technology DTC at VF Corporation.

Increased sales and improved forecasts

VF Corporation has also been able to improve the order collection experience for customers. Previously, shoppers had to wait up to 15 minutes for their order. With Scandit’s solution, the customer and store associate collect the ordered item together and discuss other complimentary options during the process. These interactions have resulted in increased sales. “The accurate inventory levels we get with Scandit Smart Data Capture have ultimately boosted our omnichannel revenue,” says Andrea Comid. The retailer has also optimised resource planning. Staff now know seven days in advance which items will be delivered and how many SKUs will need to be scanned and received. Previously, store associates were blind to forecasts.

Esprit also optimises in-store processes with SAP Fiori

At the beginning of last year, the fashion brand Esprit also succeeded in optimising its processes in the area of omnichannel services with mobile devices, as The Retail Optimiser reported. The store solution was developed with the help of CAS AG using SAP’s Fiori app technology. The fashion retailer won one of the prestigious Retail Technology Awards (Reta) from EHI Retail Institute for its store process optimisation solution.
