Rema 1000 selects Itab for store refurbishment

Norwegian discounter Rema 1000, part of Reitan Retail group, has selected Itab Group to remodel its store interiors and implement advanced loss prevention solutions. The Swedish supplier, which specialises in store design and retail technology solutions, has evaluated the deal’s combined products, services, and installations at approximately 30 million euros.

The rollout is planned across the entire network, which comprises some 650 stores across Norway. The implementation will proceed on a store-by-store basis following a standardised concept co-developed by Rema 1000 and Itab, as confirmed by the latter to The Retail Optimiser.

Beyond custom store interiors, the scope of the agreement covers standardised loss prevention solutions such as checkout gates alongside entrance and exit gates. Customer flow guidance systems as well as shopping trolleys and baskets are also included in this framework.

A flexible 42-month rollout

By upgrading both physical interiors and retail technology, the retailer aim to boost in-store security, reduce shrinkage and theft, while optimising overall operational efficiency and the customer experience. The agreement took effect on 1 September and runs for 42 months, which would represent an average pace of 15 store refurbishments per month.

That being said, the framework contains no minimum purchase commitment, giving Rema 1000 the flexibility to scale, pause, or adjust its capital expenditure as needed. The decision forms part of the discounter broader store upgrade program which includes also the implementation the cloud-based POS software Cloud4Retail solution from GK Software across its network.
