Ace Hardware optimises processes in its stores with VusionGroup

DIY retailer Ace Hardware in the US is boosting the efficiency of its stores with solutions from VusionGroup. The technology provider’s electronic shelf labels (ESLs) have been implemented in Ace Hardware stores. The DIY store operator aims to use VusionGroup’s technology to enhance both the customer experience and operational efficiency across its extensive retail network. Ace Hardware is one of the first adopters of ESLs with a full implementation in the DIY industry.

The digital labels work with the group’s Bluetooth-based IoT operating system and are integrated with VusionCloud, the IoT cloud management software. The ESLs enable the retailer to update pricing at store level in seconds, ensuring error-free and smooth price management. By digitising communication at the shelf, Ace Hardware managers and associates can be more agile, responsive and accurate, while also having more time to engage with customers.

Ace Hardware is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and has more than 5,000 locations across the US. In North America, the DIY operator is known for its outstanding customer service and rapidly growing market share in the DIY segment. “By automating pricing capabilities and the efficiencies gained with LED integration into our technology, we can maintain the high level of customer service our brand is known for, while simultaneously streamlining operations at every level,” says Eric Webb, Director of Store Systems and Operations at Ace Hardware.

ESLs with a wide range of possible applications

Using the VusionCloud platform, the DIY operator can remotely track, monitor and manage the electronic shelf labels and IoT devices to streamline store processes. In addition, Ace Hardware can use the LEDs attached to each ESL to further optimise processes. The flashing LEDs on the shelf labels can assist employees with in-store picking and shelf maintenance. They also help customers find their way around the store. With the combined benefits of Bluetooth-based technology, flashing LEDs on the shelves and cloud-based IoT management, the DIY store operator can improve the in-store shopping experience, increase the overall store performance and contribute to higher profitability.
