Avolta consolidates POS data with SAP and Retail Solutions

The world’s leading travel retail company, Avolta (formerly Dufry), has worked with SAP Retail specialist Retail Solutions to standardise and consolidate its cross-country and cross-banner POS data processes within just six months. The project focused on the introduction of SAP POS DTA (POS Data Transfer and Audit) to process sales data efficiently and consistently from over 1,000 locations.

With the new solution, Avolta is creating a scalable IT foundation for business processes in 70 countries. The previous systems were increasingly reaching their limits due to inconsistent data structures and high system loads. The Swiss travel retail giant, which changed its name from Dufry to Avolta following its acquisition of the Italian Autogrill Group in 2023, is the leading provider in the travel retail sector and operates stores under the World Duty Free and Dufry brands, as well as numerous other retail and restaurant formats at airports, motorways, railway stations and on cruise ships.

Retail Solutions implemented the project as a greenfield implementation together with the travel retail leader in just six months. All data streams from different POS systems worldwide were standardised and made available for consistent reporting. A customer-specific framework enables real-time coordination across countries and time zones – including error corrections.

Global consistency in tax requirements

In addition, country-specific tax and regulatory requirements were integrated directly into the solution to ensure that the international rollout runs as smoothly as possible. The centralised sales data now forms the basis for consistent reporting and consistently high-quality data throughout the entire company.

Thanks to the successful implementation of the SAP solution within the specified time frame and budget, Avolta now has a future-proof IT infrastructure that is optimally prepared for upcoming SAP developments. Candido Soto, Project Manager at Avolta, is satisfied with the implementation: “With a high level of expertise and close cooperation, Retail Solutions has successfully completed this challenging project. The tailor-made solutions and strong commitment have laid a solid foundation for Avolta’s future growth.”
