Carrefour Belgium selects Strongpoint’s instore-picking solution
Carrefour has selected Strongpoint’s solution to enhance the efficiency of its in-store picking in Belgium. The decision concerns the store fulfilment of scheduled home delivery orders.
The order picking solution from Strongpoint emerged as the preferred choice due to its strong alignment with Carrefour’s operational needs. The manual picking system is specifically engineered for grocery retail and reportedly boasts an average manual picking rate of 240 items per hour, with potential peaks of up to 350 items per hour, according to Strongpoint.
The provider points out that this performance is on par with fully automated systems, yet with the added advantage of lower capital investment, making it a highly cost-effective option for retailers looking to generate productivity gains to reach the coveted online grocery profitability.
A tool to reduce operational costs
“It’s purpose-built for handling grocery orders with exceptional speed and accuracy”, explains Jan Pollier, Digital & E-Commerce Director at Carrefour Belgium: “The solution enables us to improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, and deliver a more reliable service to our customers.”
The cloud-based architecture of the solution enables a rapid deployment since it integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructures through standard APIs. The dashboard provides real-time performance monitoring and data-driven insights to support continuous improvement.
Rollout will be completed this year
Strongpoint points out that its solution can be implemented in a store almost overnight and needs as little as ten minutes for new staff to be trained. The solution also embarks pick-by-light technology compatibility, custom zone creation, and automated route optimisation. The implementation of Strongpoint’s order picking solution is expected to be completed this year.
This project represents a significant milestone in Carrefour Belgium’s broader digital transformation and e-commerce strategy. The retailer disclosed that other important steps will follow for its other online services, including Carrefour Drive click and collect, Carrefour Fast same-day delivery, and Quick-Commerce solutions.
