Israeli Carrefour-Franchisee wants 4,000 smart trolleys from Cust2Mate

Global Retail, the Carrefour Group franchisee in Israel, has signed a contract with A2Z Cust2Mate valued at approximately 50 million US-Dollar, to deploy 4,000 smart carts across Carrefour Israel stores, alongside a data, retail media and digital services collaboration. The roll-out is set to begin in the third quarter of this year across six Carrefour Israel flagship stores and includes end to end delivery of smart carts, charging infrastructure, software systems, as well as full implementation, training and long-term support.

The subsidiary of Electra Consumer Products, Global Retail, is currently running about 150 stores in three different formats under the Carrefour brand in Israel. Most of them where previously operated by the same company under the banners Yenot Bitan and Mega.

Michael Luboschitz, CEO of Global Retail, expects profits of an additional tens of millions of US-Dollars from the deployment of the technology. Not only from improved operational efficiency, but also from Retail Media revenues. “Deployment of the Cust2Mate smart carts in our stores will grant our shoppers an improved shopper experience, enabling them to enjoy personalised and targeted promotions and a quicker checkout”, Michael Luboschitz is quoted in a press release: “By deploying the A2Z Cust2Mate platform, we are establishing a new global standard for connected, data driven, and personalised shopping experiences that are engineered for scale.”

Not the largest order ever

The gigantic order of Carrefour Israel is – different from what media currently report – not the largest of smart trolleys globally. At a larger scale, Casino might implement the same solution at Franprix and Monoprix in France: In September 2023, Casino signed a framework agreement with A2Z Smart Technologies for the deployment of 30,000 Cust2Mate shopping trolleys in the French market. The Retail Optimiser reported.

Another grocery retailer in Israel, Yochananof, has ordered 5,000 smart carts from the same provider. In a pilot project, Carrefour in France is also testing the Cust2Mate solution in one store in Sainte Geneviève des Bois, not far from Paris. The Retail Optimiser reported.

Major contracts from South-East Asia

According to a report of The Jerusalem Post, Israeli A2Z Cust2Mate has also significant orders from Southeast Asian retailers and will ship in total 20,000 smart trolleys to countries such as Malaysia and Thailand.

Among the retail companies set to deploy Cust2mate’s technology are Jaya Grocer, the third-largest supermarket chain and Sogo in Malaysia, the second-largest department store chain there and The Food Purveyor Group, another prominent Malaysian grocery retailer. In Thailand, Central Group, the largest retail conglomerate and Lotus’s, the largest hypermarket chain will deploy the solution as well as The Mall, the second-largest shopping centre operator in Thailand.
