Rewe is once again piloting deployment of delivery robots from US specialist Starship. Customers in the vicinity of the Rewe store at Holsteinischer Kamp 53 in Hamburg's Barmbek district can have their grocery orders delivered by the self-driving vehicles. The company had already tested them in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel over a period of six months in 2023.

Rewe has been enabling its customers to pay with the retailer's app since this week. With the new Rewe Pay function, the supermarket operator of Rewe Group in Germany deduces the purchase amount from the shopper's current account by direct debit.

Rewe Markt GmbH’s region West has announced an exclusive pilot partnership with the young robotics start-up Circus. From fall 2025, the retail company plans to test the technology provider's autonomous kitchen robot Circus Autonomy One (CA-1) in three selected stores – including cloud-based control software and a self-service terminal.

Hornbach is implementing AI-based forecasting and replenishment solutions from Relex across Europe. With the platform from the Finnish software provider, the DIY store operator is replacing SAP's F&R Engine.

Esselunga has opened a 600 square metre test centre in Milan with a Grab & Go store and a cafeteria to enable agile testing of technologies and design concepts. The Italian retail company is testing a scanless store in its Esselunga Lab, which is equipped with technology from Israeli provider Trigo.

At the Rewe Center in Cologne-Bickendorf of independent merchants Daniel and Boris Dugandzic, Rewe Digital has installed special tablet computers on around half of all 220 shopping trolleys to guide customers through the store. However, the devices are currently not used for self-scanning, for which customers still have to use the Zebra devices or their own smartphone.

Rewe Group is installing automation technology from Cimcorp in its regional distribution centre in Oranienburg. The system from Finnish specialist picks fruit and vegetables-crates. In this way, the retailer aims to efficiently deliver fresh produce to its stores and combat shortage of staff.

US convenience store operator Casey's General Stores will use Relex Solutions to optimise inventory, demand planning and space planning.

Rewe subsidiary Lekkerland today put an autonomous container store with technology from AiFi into operation on its own premises in Frechen. One for all shoppers is to follow soon.

Schnucks has equipped 22 of its grocery stores in the US with smart salad bars from Swedish specialist supplier Picadeli. Digital technologies and AI automate replenishment, optimise inventory and enable produce traceability.
