Edeka Popp validates self-scanning with Supersmart

An independent shop owner from Edeka Nordbayern-Sachsen-Thüringen is the first retailer to use the technology of Bizerba’s partner Supersmart in Germany in his E-Center. Customers of Edeka Popp in Würzburg can scan their purchases with their smartphones themselves. Supersmart’s technology then validates whether everything has been scanned correctly.

Edeka merchant Stefan Popp uses technology from Israeli Bizerba partner Supersmart in his E-Center at Nürnberger Strasse 61 in Würzburg. Popp has had the intelligent validation of self-scanning by his customers installed not only for the verification of goods in shopping trolleys but also for those in shopping baskets. In a few seconds, Supersmart’s technology validates purchases with a self-learning system based on a combination of weight sensors and image recognition. Unlike older Supersmart applications abroad, the installation at Popp has been implemented in a particularly space-saving way and with an even more futuristic design.

In a few seconds, Supersmart’s technology validates purchases with a self-learning system based on a combination of weight sensors and image recognition. First use of Supersmart in Germany

If the supersmart system detects a deviation of the goods in the shopping cart or shopping basket from the scanned items, the Scan&Go app first informs the customer which product may not have been scanned yet. Self-scanning customers at Popp can pay directly in the app or with a card at payment machines.

Outside Israel, the home country of Supersmart, the technology is already being used by Metro in C+C stores in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Turkey. Selgros, which belongs to Swiss Coop, is testing Supersmart in Romania, as the Retail Optimiser reported.
