Edeka L. Stroetmann selects DRS POS software

Edeka wholesaler and retailer L. Stroetmann is to implement POS software from DRS Deutsche Retail Services AG at its own and affiliated grocery stores. The company already uses the provider’s merchandise management solution drs/Store at its stores and head office. To reduce shrinkage, L. Stroetmann has successfully implemented the supplier’s loss prevention software drs/LP. The company is thus deviating from the strategy of Edeka Group, which relies mainly on SAP for merchandise management and – for the time being — POS software from GK.

L. Stroetmann is a regional wholesale partner of Edeka Rhein-Ruhr and supplies around 80 independent Edeka retailers in Münsterland and the neighbouring regions. Its retail operation comprises seven E-centres with sales areas of between 2,000 and 4,000 square metres.

Dr David Schüppler, Member of the Executive Board of L. Stroetmann Group, explained to The Retail Optimiser that the new drs/POS solution replaces its existing POS software from Oracle (formerly dStore). DRS is currently working on adapting the software to the requirements of the Edeka retailer. For example, the Payback system will be integrated into the solution as a module. The retailer expects the software to go live in a first pilot store at the end of June or beginning of July.

Existing hardware will be retained

The rollout for both the company’s own E-Centres and stores from affiliated independent retailers will follow during second half of 2025 and should be completed before the end of the year. A total of around 275 POS systems will receive the new software. Hardware will not be replaced. The solution will be implemented on the existing Diebold Nixdorf platform.

The drs/POS software can be implemented on all types of POS systems. At L. Stroetmann, these are initially both traditional staffed POS systems and self-checkouts. Dr David Schüppler reported plans for a possible future Scan&Go operation. Currently, L. Stroetmann began modernising its drs/Store merchandising solution aso for affiliated stores.

Woolworth also relies on drs/POS

DRS customers include Max Lüning with the SB Lüning department stores, Konsum Leipzig and Bünting with the Combi and Famila sales companies. Woolworth in Poland and Austria has been using drs/POS since 2023. In March of this year, the department stores’ operator also began rolling out the software in Germany. The Czech Republic and Slovakia are set to follow later this year.
