Asda rolls out VusionGroup’s digital labels to 250 Express stores

Asda is deploying VusionGroup’s electronic shelf labels (ESLs) across more than 250 of its newest Express convenience stores to improve operational efficiency and on-shelf availability. The move follows a successful three-month pilot at the retailer’s Oxford Road site in Manchester. Asda plans to launch up to 20 new Express stores before the end of this year.

Working with VusionGroup and its partners Renovotec and HL Display, the rollout will equip stores with approximately 700,000 digital shelf labels. The technology replaces manual paper price labels, enabling real time price updates and freeing store staff to focus on customer service and replenishment. The three-month trial in Manchester saw employees spending more of their time helping customers, managing deliveries and replenishing shelves.

VusionGroup was selected for its IoT and data-driven solutions that enhance productivity across store operations. “By streamlining our instore operations, we can free up our colleagues to focus on what they do best – serving our customers,” says James Law, Senior Director at Asda Express: “With the first of 20 new Express sites set to open next, we’re excited to build on this momentum and to bring Asda’s trusted value to even more communities across the UK.”

British retailers enhance store processes with VusionGroup

The deployment represents a further stage in Asda’s move to automate and connect store operations more closely. “By combining ESLs with IoT innovation and data-rich insight, we are helping to transform the in-store experience for Asda customers and colleagues,” adds Roy Horgan, CEO UK & Ireland at VusionGroup.

At the beginning of the year, British Co-operative Group also announced plans to equip all of its 2,400 stores across the UK with VusionGroup’s ESLs, as The Retail Optimiser reported. This marked the largest ESLs rollout by a single retailer in the UK and Ireland.
