Lidl has integrated Wero as a new payment method into its German online shop. Customers can now use it to pay for purchases on Lidl.de via real-time bank transfer directly from their current account. Lidl is the first grocery retailer in Germany to offer Wero as an e-commerce payment method.
Payments are processed via the participating bank’s app. Customers ordering via smartphone are redirected from the checkout to their banking app, where they authorise the payment. According to Lidl, desktop users can scan a QR code with their smartphone.
This requires a current account with one of the 18 participating banks. Customers must also activate the Wero function once in their banking app. Lidl points out that Wero is already available to more than 56 million bank customers across Europe.
Decathlon also offers Wero payments
Wero is already offered by Decathlon, and Baur, the mail-order company belonging to Otto Group, is currently working on its introduction. The European Payments Initiative (EPI) also lists Rossmann, Hornbach and Zooplus as partners, but it is not yet possible to pay with Wero at these retailers.
