Coop Estonia upgrades Scan&Go app from Datanor and Scanbot SDK with payment function
Grocery retail group Coop Estonia has added a payment function to its smartphone app in collaboration with Coop Bank. Users of the Coop app can now integrate Coop Bank’s widely used Säästukaart Pluss (Savings Card Plus) and use it to pay and collect points without presenting the plastic card.
The Coop Scan&Go app, developed by local software provider Datanor, utilises a scan function that comes from Bonn-based German specialist provider Scanbot SDK. This means that customers can now scan their purchases with their smartphone at more than 100 of the 320 Coop locations in the country and pay directly via app without having to visit a payment terminal.
More than 200,000 users have downloaded the Coop app since its launch in June 2024, resulting in over three million transactions in stores. “This shows that the mobile app was wanted by customers and quickly accepted,” says Rainer Rohtla, Head of the Central Co-operative Coop Estonia. He has received feedback from customers that the integration of Säästukaart Pluss makes using the app even more attractive. Additional important enhancements will follow over the year.
Scan&Go requires effortless scanning
Via Scan&Go, Coop Estonia wishes to offer its customers a convenient and enjoyable shopping experience by using their smartphones to scan and pay in many Coop stores. The solution therefore had to ensure reliable product scanning, integrate the customer card and run on both Android and iOS platforms. It also needed to be cost-effective and future-proof.
Thanks to its modular architecture, the Datanor platform promises to integrate new functions quickly and seamlessly. This means that different mobile payment systems can be integrated. Customers can also choose different solutions for barcode scanning according to their requirements. Coop opted for the Scanbot SDK scan engine because of its promised high reliability, platform independence and flat-rate pricing model.
Payment function offers more
Customers can use the activated payment function in the Coop app to make cashless payments in all Coop stores, not just those that offer Scan&Go. The linked Süüstukaart Plus is also a customer card with which all benefits of the Coop Loyalty Programme can be used. In addition, it offers customers the opportunity to apply for a credit limit, which is interest-free if the amounts used are repaid regularly. Users can also use it to withdraw or deposit cash at Coop checkouts.
