Coop Sweden brings Klas Pettersson on board
Coop Sweden has appointed Klas Pettersson as the new CEO of Coop Logistik. The manager will take up his new position on 4 January 2027 and will also join the executive board of Coop Sweden.
Coop Sweden’s logistics unit manages the supply chain to the retail company’s approximately 800 stores. The logistics network includes the frozen goods distribution centre in Enköping and the 77,000-square-metre, highly automated DC in Eskilstuna, whose intralogistics system was implemented by SSI Schäfer as the main contractor. There, 95 per cent of the order-picking processes are automated, as The Retail Optimiser reported.
In his new role, Klas Pettersson will be responsible for further developing supply chain management. “Our logistics operations are entering an exciting phase in which we will continue to develop cost-efficient, robust and sustainable supply chains,” explains Anders Torell, CEO of Coop Sweden. “Klas Pettersson brings exactly the strategic vision and strong leadership skills required to lead Coop Logistics into the future and strengthen our competitiveness in the market.”
Industry experience
Klas Pettersson joins from Apotek Hjärtat, a company belonging to the Swedish ICA Group with around 400 pharmacies and a growing online business. He has been in charge of logistics there since 2015. Prior to this, the experienced retail manager held various management positions in logistics at ICA Sweden and worked as a management consultant specialising in supply chain management.
“I am very much looking forward to working with the Coop Logistics team, our suppliers and our regional Coop cooperatives to continue developing efficient, sustainable and modern supply chains that create the greatest possible added value for our stores and members,” said Klas Pettersson.
Kristoffer Widén to lead the transition
Until Klas Pettersson takes up his new role, Kristoffer Widén will temporarily lead Coop Logistics. He will step into the interim role on 1 September this year and has more than 20 years’ management experience in retail and logistics.
The current CEO, Örjan Grandin, will be leaving Coop Logistics in the course of this year after almost nine years at the forefront. During this time, Örjan Grandin has, amongst other things, overseen the construction of the highly automated logistics centre in Eskilstuna.
