DekaMarkt optimises grocery home deliveries with Centric
DekaMarkt has implemented solutions from Centric to process online orders more efficiently. The Dutch supermarket chain is using its own staff and vans to deliver groceries. With growing demand, the company was looking for ways to reduce costs and optimise delivery processes.
Initially, online orders were picked from stores using Centric software. In order not to disrupt regular purchasing processes and to better utilise economies of scale, the retailer centralised picking and packing of goods in its new distribution centre in Velsen-Noord. Products are picked and packed into delivery boxes with special cases for refrigerated and frozen foods. These will then be delivered directly to customers or transported to one of the retailer’s regional delivery hubs.
Digital control of the delivery process
To control the delivery process, DekaMarkt uses an application developed by Centric specifically for the last mile. The drivers see on their mobile phones to which addresses they have to deliver. The solution guides them step-by-step with questions through the process.
Customers pay digitally at the mobile checkout system InPosition Pay from Centric. This also allows employees to register changes to the invoice amount, for example, if the customer wishes to return individual items or empties. At the end of the transaction, customers receive a digital receipt.
Going forward, DekaMarkt plans to take further steps to improve the efficiency of last-mile deliveries. For example, journey times can be further shortened by optimising routes. Additionally, the retailer wants to equip vehicles with a dynamic locking system.
