The convenience division of the Rewe Group, Lekkerland, is implementing VusionGroup’s solutions in its unmanned smart kiosks – mini stores with self-checkouts that are open around the clock. Following a successful pilot project in Düsseldorf, the rollout has been extended to smart kiosks throughout Germany. The technology enables Lekkerland to monitor its shelves in real time, ensuring compliance with the GDPR. It also allows the company to centralise pricing, manage promotions and oversee inventory from its headquarters in Frechen.
By integrating VusionGroup’s Cloud platform, digital shelf labels (ESLs), and AI-powered shelf-monitoring technology, Lekkerland gains complete visibility into every product on every shelf. By implementing AI-driven shelf monitoring, the convenience store operator increased on-shelf availability to over 95 per cent. “The solutions from VusionGroup are our eyes inside the autonomous smart kiosks,” says Luca Heidari, Senior Rollout Manager for Smart Store Development at Lekkerland: “They allow us to precisely manage restocking without having to be on-site.”
VusionGroup’s system enables pricing and promotion updates, accurate restocking alerts, and item-level performance insights that drive operational efficiency and enhance the shopper experience. Employees can assign new ESLs via handheld devices, with product and pricing information automatically synced from Lekkerland’s central merchandise management system.
In future, all new Lekkerland stores in the Smart Kiosk format will be equipped with VusionGroup’s solutions as standard. These autonomous mini-stores operated by the convenience store company are mainly found in clinics and office locations and differ in terms of the technologies and shopping concepts used.
