Walmart is deploying a solution jointly developed by technology providers Knapp and Packsize to ship online orders in exactly right-sized packaging. Thus, deliveries can be handled in a more cost-effective and sustainable way.

Rewe is expanding the reach of its delivery service to 1.6 million households in the Ruhr region with a new Food Fulfilment Centre (FFC) in the city of Bochum. The distribution centre, which relies largely on manual processing, supports employees with pick-to-light technology during order picking.

Lekkerland, in cooperation with energy supplier ENBW, opened the first fully automated unmanned container store named Rewe Ready end of September. The autonomous grocery store of the Rewe Group subsidiary is located at the EnBW fast charging park for electrical cars in Bispingen, Lower Saxony. The store's technology originates from Paderborn-based company Latebird.

This week, Edeka Südwest opened a combination of its Italophile deli concept Sapori d'Italia with a fully automated 24/7 store in Offenburg. Knapp robotics picks everyday items in the back of the vending area and makes them available to customers at a counter.

UK multichannel retailer Next is expanding logistics capabilities for its fast-growing online business. The company is automating its new fulfilment centre with technology from Austrian specialist Knapp.

Australian supermarket chain Woolworth is planning its first online fulfilment centre in Auburn, in Western Sydney. The new logistics site will deploy automation technology from Austrian supplier Knapp and is scheduled to begin operations in 2024.

At the first inner city store of its Combi format, Bünting sells 500 articles fully automatically around the clock. This is the first use of the automatic store, which Wanzl and the Knapp subsidiary KHT presented at this year's EuroShop in Düsseldorf.
