Aldi Süd implements omnichannel retailing in the US with Instacart
Aldi Süd has closed the omnichannel loop in the US with a relaunch of its web stores and mobile app. The technology is provided by Instacart, the discounter’s now exclusive online fulfilment partner, via its Storefront Pro platform. The new online presence personalises the shopping experience both online and in-store.
Most households in the US can now order goods from Aldi Süd, which are picked and delivered by Instacart staff in the stores. Back in summer 2024, the discounter installed the quick service provider’s Connected Stores technology in all its US stores, enabling customers to access stock data and location of goods in stores via the app. The Retail Optimiser reported.
“Customers look for more flexibility,” explains Dave Rinaldo, Chief Operating Officer at Aldi Süd USA: “Our partnership with Instacart enhances the Aldi online shopping experience, providing another convenient way to get groceries whenever and how they want.”
Customers receive personalised product recommendations
Using Storefront Pro, Aldi offers its US customers personalised product recommendations and an advanced product search via its website and app. Users can also find numerous recipe suggestions there. Customers can add the ingredients directly to their shopping list.
The discounter has been using Instacart’s fulfilment solutions since 2019. This not only enables same-day home deliveries, but customers can also choose to collect their orders from the store. The goods are ready for collection within an hour. Aldi Süd took its first steps into home delivery via Instacart in the US in 2017.
Unified e-commerce platform
Storefront Pro is designed to connect the retailer’s website, mobile app and in-store digital touchpoints on a unified platform. The application uses AI tools for search functions and personalised recommendations. Combined with Instacart’s fulfilment technology, it forms an end-to-end e-commerce solution that promises Aldi complete control over brand presentation and customer experience.
The new Aldi website and app are now available nationwide in the US. Aldi Süd currently operates a total of more than 2,600 stores across 40 US states. The company plans to further expand its presence in the United States. By the end of 2028, customers should be able to shop in 3,200 US Aldi stores.
