H&M’s new CIO comes from Inditex

H&M Group has appointed Diego Teijeiro Ruiz as its new Chief Information Officer. He joins from rival Inditex. Diego Teijeiro Ruiz will take up the post on 25 May, reporting to CEO Daniel Ervér, and will be a member of the Executive Management Team.

Diego Teijeiro Ruiz succeeds Ellen Svanström. Already in February, Ellen Svanström had announced her departure from the H&M Group. She will remain with the company for the transition period until further notice.

Diego Teijeiro Ruiz has worked at Inditex for almost two decades. Since January 2018, he has served as Global Chief Data and Analytics Officer there. Prior to that, from 2010 until the end of 2017, he was Deputy CIO, responsible for technology relating to product, supply chain, stores and sustainability.

Experience in the cybersecurity sector

Prior to this, Diego Teijeiro Ruiz was responsible for technology for the global reporting and transportation at Zara’s parent company from late 2007 to late 2009. His career at Inditex began in 2007 as a cybersecurity consultant. Before joining Inditex, Diego Teijeiro Ruiz worked in the cybersecurity division at Mapfre from 2004 to 2007. Prior to that, he worked as a consultant at Deloitte.

“His experience will play a key role in further improving the shopping experience across all channels and strengthening the company’s technological foundation,” H&M states in a press release. The retail giant praises Diego Teijeiro Ruiz for his ability to simplify complex structures and closely align technology with business requirements.

H&M restructures

The change of CIO is not the only change in the management team. Back in February, H&M Group appointed David von Heijne as Chief Supply Chain Officer. The group had reported a decline in sales for the first quarter and announced further optimisation of its store portfolio.
