Morrisons consolidates online orders with Instacart’s Instaleap
Morrisons has introduced Instaleap’s software for processing and picking online orders. Instaleap was acquired by Instacart in April this year. Morrisons is now using the solution to consolidate orders from Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo and to support its in-store staff with order picking.
The platform consolidates orders from the three delivery marketplaces into a single system. Instaleap also provides an in-store picking app designed to help staff assemble items more quickly and accurately.
Morrisons aims, above all, to use the solution to strengthen its business via its instant delivery partners. According to the company, more customers are ordering groceries through these providers and expect a reliable service.
Caper Cart assists customers in-store
At the same time, Instacart’s Caper Cart is now being rolled out at Morrisons’ supermarket in Preston. Morrisons introduced the smart shopping trolley there at the end of July 2026 and is the first UK retailer to trial the technology.
Customers scan the barcodes of their items themselves using the Caper Cart. The system uses cameras to check whether products placed in the trolley have been scanned. The trolley also weighs loose fruit and vegetables. Its screen displays the current basket value, as well as product recommendations and special offers. Customers can also scan their Morrisons More Card and then pay for their shopping at a dedicated Caper checkout.
The systems perform separate tasks
Morrisons and Instacart have not announced any plans to use the Caper Cart in conjunction with Instaleap for picking online orders. The available information describes two separate applications: staff pick platform orders using the Instaleap app, whilst customers use the Caper Cart for their own brick-and-mortar shopping.
Instacart acquired Instaleap in April 2026, thereby expanding its international fulfilment technology business. Morrisons now uses both the subsidiary’s online solution and Instacart’s Caper Cart.
