Tesco is trialling Simbe Robotics’ inventory robot, Tally, in one of its stores. This reports Toby Pickard, Retail Futures Senior Partner at British trade association Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD). Tally moves autonomously through the store’s aisles to detect out-of-stocks, pricing errors and misplaced products.

Starting yesterday, Spar Austria became the first grocery retailer in Austria to test Simbe Robotics' autonomous robot. The Tally robot will roll through the Eurospar store in Vienna and the Interspar store in Eisenstadt over the next five months.

Spar Austria has automated the entire goods receiving process at its reopened logistics centre in Graz with technology from Knapp. A fully automated pallet high-bay racking system optimises storage capacity at the site, which was expanded to 40,000 square metres over a two-year construction period.

Austrian Spar today launched an app that allows customers to use complex sales promotions in its stores without registering by name with the retailer.
