Rewe Group's discounter Penny has opened a first experience store on sustainability with digital touchpoints from Swiss software house Instore Solutions.

With Edeka's Netto, another German discounter is testing self-scanning with customers' smartphones. The team of IT Managing Director Claus Leitl deliberately relies on a proprietary development that is fully integrated into Netto's customer app.

After initial tests in two stores in Cologne and Marburg last year, Rewe Group's discounter Penny is starting the roll-out of its mobile scanning solution in an initial 111 stores in the coming weeks.
