Coop’s Selgros tests Supersmart self-scanning validation in Bucharest
Following its Cash&Carry-competitor Metro, Coop Switzerland’s Selgros is now also testing the innovative checkout solution from Supersmart.
The first installation of two lanes is currently ramped up in the Selgros store in Bukarest, Romania, The Retail Optimiser learned. It is supposed to go live for the customers in August. Until then, Selgros will test the solution for employees only.
The Supersmart solution, which is promoted by Bizerba through a strategic partnership, allows validation of self-scanning conducted by the customers during the shopping trip either with proprietary handheld devices or shoppers’ smartphones. With a combination of image recognition and weighing scales sensorics, the solution from Israelian company Supersmart aims to reduce shrinkage based on faulty self-scanning.
Metro C+C won one of this year’s Reta Europe awards for its installation of Supersmart checkouts. Coop Switzerland is planning to decide early next year on roll-outs of the solution at Selgros.
Initial client of Supersmart on a large scale is the Israelian grocery retail company Osher Ad. Metro Group is currently installing it in more C+C stores in Turkey and Hungary.
