Morrisons deploys Everseen solution at its self-checkouts

British grocery retailer Morrisons is expanding the deployment of Vision AI technology to enhance self-checkout accuracy across its network. Following a successful pilot, the grocer has signed a long-term contract with Everseen to roll out its Evercheck Vision AI solution across 200 stores.

Evercheck leverages computer vision and artificial intelligence to identify missed or mis-scanned items in real time. Designed to mitigate both intentional theft and unintentional scanning errors, the privacy-focused technology analyses transaction behaviour without using facial recognition.

It is capable of detecting over 30 distinct loss and fraud patterns, including non-scans, ticket-switching, abandoned transactions, and unscanned items remaining in baskets or trolleys. To prevent unnecessary alerts, the system reportedly distinguishes between store merchandise and personal belongings, such as mobile phones or handbags placed near scanning areas.

On-screen dialogue with shopper

When a scanning discrepancy occurs, the platform automatically prompts shoppers with an on-screen notification to rescan the item themselves. By resolving routine checkout issues autonomously, Morrisons is able to reduce the need for staff intervention while strengthening overall loss prevention.

Everseen claims that its customers have achieved up to a 20 per cent margin improvement through a combination of reduced shrinkage and operational efficiencies. According to Everseen, its platform integrates to the existing POS software, self-checkout terminals, and store security infrastructure. Globally, the technology was currently deployed across more than 150,000 checkouts in over 10,000 stores.
