Africa’s largest retailer, The Shoprite Group, has successfully completed the implementation of its new POS system from GK in its 2,450 South African stores in just five months. The implementation of GK Software’s new POS system represents a significant development in Shoprite’s efforts to enhance its omnichannel retail operations.

GK has acquired Nomitri, a start-up company specialising in vision recognition. The Berlin-based start-up's solutions will be fully integrated into GK’s retail platform Cloud4Retail under the name GK Vision. Nomitri will continue to exist as a wholly owned subsidiary of GK.

In the highly competitive POS software market, GK was able to significantly expand its market position and achieved second place behind market leader NCR Voyix. RBR Data Services’ study Global POS Software 2024 expects a growing demand for new solutions. However, more and more retail companies rely on proprietary solutions.

Ahold Delhaize, Tesco, Canadian Sobeys (Empire Company) and South African Shoprite Group have joined the venture capital activities of the Australian Woolworths Group.
