Rewe Group’s Toom praises Auto Store’s e-commerce order picking
A few months after implementing the new Auto Store system, Toom shows itself satisfied with the automation of the small parts warehouse at the Rodgau fulfilment centre. According to the DIY store operator, the system has been running smoothly since going live in March, with no negative impact on day-to-day operations. Seven robots are now handling parts of the order picking process for e-commerce.
The robots retrieve containers from the storage cube and automatically transport them to the staff’s picking stations. According to Toom, this system will enable significantly more efficient small-parts picking processes in future. The company also anticipates that walking distances within the warehouse will be considerably reduced, creating more ergonomic working conditions.
“We are very satisfied. The commissioning of the Auto Store system went smoothly and without a hitch. The go-live went according to plan and did not affect day-to-day operations,” says Dominique Rotondi, Managing Director of Merchandise and Logistics at Toom. The DIY store operator, which is part of Rewe Group, prepared the system for launch with training sessions, test runs and technical fine-tuning.
Robots transport goods to staff
The company reports that around 23,000 containers are now in active storage and integrated into daily order processing. Automated provision has significantly reduced lead times. As order volumes increase, the system is designed to provide greater reliability and flexibility in day-to-day operations.
The Rodgau site handles B2C orders from the Toom online shop. The company has consolidated parts of its e-commerce logistics operations there, across an area of around 30,000 square metres. The proximity to the existing warehouse in Dietzenbach is also intended to improve delivery times and stock availability.
