Lekkerland, the convenience division of Rewe Group, proves the maturity of its smart box concept based on AiFi technology with key figures from the 24/7 high-frequency operation at Frankfurt Airport.

Rewe Group's subsidiary Lekkerland has opened a first Rewe Ready store at the EnBW fast charging park near the Kamen motorway junction with AiFi technology. For two other Rewe Ready locations, Lekkerland is relying on technology from Latebird and on smart fridges from the Portuguese specialist Reckon.ai.

In High Road of London’s borough of Greenwich, Aldi UK's just-walk-out pilot store has opened for the public this week. Previously, only staff have been able to test the discounter's high-tech store, as reported by Retail Optimiser. In this store, shoppers do not have to scan their purchases or go through a checkout.

Aldi Süd has launched a just-walk-out store in London on a trial basis. The technology comes most likely from Californian specialist AiFi, with whom Aldi Süd has been testing for several months.

Amazon plans to close all its 19 Amazon Fresh stores in the UK. The US online giant announced this in a blog post on Tuesday this week. This also means the end of Just Walk Out technology in larger stores in the United Kingdom. Competitor Sainsbury's had already replaced it with self-checkouts at its London Holborn Circus store in February.
