Lekkerland, in cooperation with energy supplier ENBW, opened the first fully automated unmanned container store named Rewe Ready end of September. The autonomous grocery store of the Rewe Group subsidiary is located at the EnBW fast charging park for electrical cars in Bispingen, Lower Saxony. The store's technology originates from Paderborn-based company Latebird.

Polish convenience store leader Żabka is rapidly pushing ahead with the expansion of cashierless stores. While large retail chains such as Aldi Nord and Süd, Carrefour, Edeka's Netto, Tesco and Rewe are testing checkout-free stores at individual locations in Europe, Żabka Group has already opened fifty stores of its AI-based banner line Żabka Nono in Poland.

As part of a pilot project, Rewe Group in Germany offers shoppers extended information on origin and production stages for selected products of its Rewe Bio private label range. The company is using the F-Trace platform from GS1 Germany for this purpose.

Rewe Group has equipped a significantly larger supermarket in Berlin with Trigo's scanless technology. Soon, all customers in the reopened supermarket in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district will be able to shop without having their goods scanned. In June 2021, Rewe Group had participated in the financing of Trigo.

Relex Solutions has acquired Formulate, a Swedish promotion planning and analytics company. One of the joint users of Formulate and Relex is the Swedish Coop, whose Värmland region is one of Relex's early customers in the field of inventory optimisation, but also staff planning.

In the Upper Franconian village of Pettstadt, Rewe Markt GmbH is piloting Josefs Nahkauf Box, a retail format with around 700 items for daily needs. On an area of 39 square metres, customers can independently scan goods at a self-checkout from 4POS and pay by debit or credit card seven days a week, around the clock.

Convenience wholesaler Lekkerland, which is part of Rewe Group, plans to launch several different types of unmanned vending boxes under its Rewe To Go banner operation.
